Your files

Files you drop on this site are processed entirely inside your browser. They are never uploaded, stored, or seen by us or anyone else. When you close the tab, they are gone from the page.

What we measure

We collect anonymous usage numbers to understand whether the tools work: page views, and for each compression the file size in megabytes, the target size, how long it took, and whether it succeeded. We do not collect file names, file contents, or anything that identifies you. We do not use advertising identifiers in this measurement, and analytics state is kept in memory, not in cookies.

Those numbers are handled for us by PostHog, and they reach it through this site’s own address rather than PostHog’s. We should be straight about what that means: content blockers recognise PostHog’s address and stop requests to it, and routing through ours means they no longer recognise it. We do it because a blocked visit is not recorded as blocked, it is not recorded at all, which leaves us guessing at how many people the tools actually worked for. It carries nothing extra: the same anonymous numbers listed above, no cookie, no identifier, and never anything from your file. If you would rather send nothing, blocking the address morphable.app/ingest stops it, and every tool on this site keeps working exactly as it does now.

Ads

The site is free to use. We have applied to show ads from Google to pay for it. The application has not been approved yet, so no ads are running here today and nothing described in this section is happening yet. It is written down now so you can read it before you are ever asked to agree to anything.

Ads would sit on the page, next to a tool — never inside one. Your file is not part of an ad and is not handed to anyone: the work happens on your device and the file never leaves it. That does not change when ads arrive: an ad is something the page shows to you, not something your file is shown to.

Once ads start, Google and its partners may store cookies on your device or read ones that are already there, and use them to:

• choose which ads to show you, including ads picked to suit you;
• keep the same ad from following you around all day;
• measure how the ads did — how often they were shown, and whether anyone pressed one.

Saying no, and changing your mind

If you are in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, you will be asked before any advertising cookie is set, and nothing of the sort is stored until you answer. Answering no does not take anything away: every tool on this site works the same either way, because none of them needed the internet in the first place.

You can take back an answer you have already given, at any time:

• Clear this site’s cookies and site data in your browser. Your stored answer goes with them, and you will be asked again the next time you visit.
• Turn off ads picked to suit you, for every site rather than just this one, in Google’s own ad settings.
• Block third-party cookies in your browser settings, which stops them being set here and everywhere else.

When the ads are live, the question will also be reachable again from the page itself, so you will not have to go through your browser settings to change an answer.
